HER STORY

The Rejection That Redirected Everything

Mercy Koech grew up in Londiani, a town in Kericho County in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Like many young Kenyans with ambition and a disciplined nature, she set her sights on the Kenya Army. She trained, she prepared, and she applied — only to be turned away on a height requirement.

For most people, that would have been the end of the story. For Mercy, it was the beginning of a different one

"Rejection is not a full stop. It is a redirection."

CHAPTER TWO

From Kenya to the United States Navy

Mercy moved to the United States through an athletics scholarship. She enlisted in the United States Navy and served as both a soldier and a nursing student. She was deployed to Afghanistan and Somalia — operating in environments where most people would be consumed by fear.

The Navy did not just give her a uniform. It gave her a framework: discipline, precision, composure under pressure, and the knowledge that the mind is the most important weapon a person carries

CHAPTER THREE

The Choice to Return

After retiring from the Navy, Mercy had built a life in America. She chose to come home anyway. That choice — to return to Kenya and pursue Olympic qualification for the nation that first turned her away — is the heart of everything this campaign stands for

"Fortune Favors the Brave. I've lived that. Now I want Kenya to live it with me."

CHAPTER FOUR

Air Rifle Shooting & The Olympic Mission

Air rifle shooting demands extraordinary precision, mental composure, and physical stillness — exactly the qualities military service builds. In December 2025 she placed 8th nationally, scoring 297. By January 2026, she placed 2nd, scoring 352. She is currently ranked second in Kenya.
